Bob serves as President and CEO of the American Wood Council, having been named to that position in 2010. AWC is the voice in the U.S. of North American traditional and engineered wood products, representing over 75% of the industry. AWC engages in advocacy and outreach and staff include regulatory policy and government affairs experts, along with engineers, technologists, and building code experts who develop state-of-the-art data, technology, and standards on structural wood products for use in construction. AWC also provides technical, legal, and economic information on wood design, sustainability, and manufacturing environmental regulations, and advocates for balanced government policies that will sustain the wood products industry.
Bob first came to the industry in 1978, joining the National Forest Products Association as Manager of Fire Technology. Over the years he served both NFPA and its successor organization, the American Forest & Paper Association, as Technical Research Counsel, Assistant Vice President of Operations, Executive Director of the Wood Products Group, and Group Vice President for Forestry & Wood Products. In addition to his employment with the associations, he previously worked as a litigator for a D.C. law firm, as Director of Research for the Washington, D.C. Fire Department, and as adjunct faculty at the Universities of Maryland and the District of Columbia. He holds both B.A. and J.D. degrees.
